In-House Laboratories
At your pet’s annual (or biannual, for our senior animals) wellness exam, our veterinarians will often suggest running a few laboratory tests to make sure your pet is healthy both inside and out. Physical examinations are great for telling us if anything is wrong in places we can hear, see or feel, while diagnostic testing can tell us more about your pet’s internal health.
What do we recommend your pet get checked for?
For Dogs
For dogs, it’s important that they get a regular Heartworm and Tick Borne Disease SNAP test. Heartworms, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma and Lyme disease are at best detrimental to your pet’s health and at their worst fatal. We also suggest an intestinal parasite screen, especially since these can be transferred to humans. A thyroid check and complete blood count will alert us to early stages of a disease as well. Urinalysis can help us diagnose kidney problems, such as infections or stones, and a chemistry panel checks organ function.
For Cats
For cats, we recommend a Heartworm and Feline Virus SNAP test and intestinal parasite check to rule out some of the major parasites commonly found in domesticated animals. A thyroid check, complete blood count, urinalysis and chemistry panel are similarly helpful for catching diseases in their earliest stages.
